GEOGRAPHY OF ILE-ALATAU
Ile-Alatau National Park is located in southern Kazakhstan, along the northern slopes of the Zailiysky Alatau — a range in the Northern Tien Shan system. It stretches along the southern edge of Almaty and covers an area of more than 200,000 hectares.
The park starts almost at the city limits and rises from fertile foothills to high-altitude glaciers, including peaks over 4,000 meters above sea level. This makes Ile-Alatau Park unique — within one area, you can find steppes, forests, alpine meadows, and glacial zones.

Chimbulak is the largest and most famous ski resort in Kazakhstan, located in the Zailiysky Alatau gorge at 2,260 meters above sea level.
